As a provider of Protective Behaviours training courses, and developers of Protective Behaviours based workshops and programmes, I feel excited that our new venture to train facilitators of ‘Morris and His Friends Talk About Feelings’ has successfully begun by running our first training day in February 2019. If you are looking for an intervention that you can run within your school or organisation to help improve mental health and emotional wellbeing through fun, puppet, art and craft based workshops with parents and children together, staff can now be trained to deliver this series of four workshops.

‘This is most relevant in further developing a whole school approach and emotional wellbeing systems, structures, curriculum and enhancing particularly the engagement with parents and carers’, Headteacher Feb 2019.

We ran our first course for Level 2 trained staff last month gaining valuable feedback for shaping the course, with those attending sharing their excitement of having a Protective Behaviours based parent and child intervention to run within their settings.

We are always listening, and in developing any new resource, whether for parents and carers or professionals, the feedback and evaluations we receive are central to helping us shape it to best meet the needs of those attending.

As one participant said: ‘I think the course was really useful, well thought out and delivered at exactly the right level. It was really nice to be part of the first ever Morris training and give contributions to the workbook and talk about ideas or changes we would make to the course content and wording. The learning materials were absolutely fantastic’.

Following the training day Katie from The Living Room, an addiction service, sent us this photo of the Feeling Safe tree she had made for their creche with some lovely comments:

‘Just a couple of photos for you of our new feeling safe tree we have put up in the creche following on from the wonderful Morris the Bear training the other week! I enjoyed the training so much and can’t wait to use this tool with our families which I know are going to benefit immensely from the experience. Please let me know when you are hoping to deliver your next Morris the Bear training as one of my creche assistants would like to do it’.

The next Morris Facilitator training day is being planned and we are delighted to have so much interest from schools and family centres. If you have completed Protective Behaviours Level 2 (Intermediate) course and would like to be added to our waiting list for the next training day please email enquiries@familiesfeelingsafe.co.uk
