Spring 2017 Newsletter

What we’ve been up to

The Autumn term was filled with training courses, delivering programmes to families and more exciting ventures including becoming a finalist in Hertfordshire Business Awards!

We ran 11 Level 1 courses and a further Level 2 course where people progressed their PBs knowledge and skills. Our trainers were delighted to work with so many enthusiastic people interested in learning about Protective Behaviours for themselves and in their practice.

Funding

CAMHS

We are feeling excited to be delivering further programmes with funding from CAMHS. This will include 4My Family and Me, a 4 session programme for parents and carers to understand PBs, Morris the Bear, 4 workshops with parents and their children together about feelings, and whole class PB workshops.

The Level 2 course on 6-8 February will also be part funded costing £250+VAT (normally £395+VAT) Please book as soon as possible to get this discounted rate! For the booking form, see ‘What’s coming up’.

The Living Room

We ran a Families Feeling Safe programme at The Living Room last year with great feedback from parents and also worked closely with their team. The Living Room is a wonderful place that works with people with all kinds of addictions. Our PBs programme complimented and reinforced the in-house programme that clients attend while enabling parents to understand and use these ideas with their children. Since then they have been successful with funding to run a Children Feeling safe project. We are delighted to be working in partnership with them to deliver part of this and train key staff to develop their own capacity to sustain PBs work in-house. Fantastic news!

Update on Animations Project

We have been working in partnership with Leeds University developing 3 Animations: Bullying, Domestic Abuse and Predatory Behaviour. This has been exciting and a new challenge and the animations are now completed. The animations have been based on research findings on children’s problem solving abilities in these situations. A great learning curve for us all in what is involved in producing them by considering the animation style, script writing, colours, style, voiceover and music. Careful consideration was made on the Protective Behaviours messages with each animation only lasting about 2 minutes! The next step is Pilot Research with Leeds University showing them to children and our service showing them to Professionals, Parents and Carers. We very much welcome your involvement in this and if you are interested please email enquiries@familiesfeelingsafe.co.uk

Hertfordshire Business Awards

We became a finalist in the Hertfordshire Business Awards as a Social Enterprise. We are so pleased to have recently been chosen. We evaluate all of our programmes and training with the children, parents, carers and professionals with whom we work and it feels really exciting to have this independent validation of our service. The awards night was a lovely opportunity to share the success with our amazing team!
